Join our new World Solutions Challenge, an asynchronous instructional and competitive challenge to showcase your problem solving! No previous experience with the FPS problem solving process is needed; all students in equivalent USA grades 5-9 are welcome to join.
During the 2-week long Challenge period, you will learn about the 6 step problem solving process and then practice your skills on a real world, current issue. You will identify problems, narrow your focus, and solve your underlying problem. The final product of your work is an explanation of your best solution, the Action Plan, which will be judged to determine winners.
The email used to register will be the adult contact for the team; no official “coach” is required. Adult contacts do not need to be part of/familiar with FPSPI because FPSPI will provide resources, tips, and all instructional materials directly to the students.
For competitors familiar with Global Issues Problem Solving (GIPS), this Challenge differs in that the only part that will be judged is the Action Plan.
When the Challenge officially opens on September l8, 2023 you can log in, view the instructional videos, and input your work for each step. The Challenge portal will be open for 2 weeks from September l8, 2023 through October 2, 2023.
While teams are encouraged to complete all 6 steps only the Step 6 Action Plan will be judged. The scoring rubric will be available on the resources tab of FPSOnline when you are granted access to the Challenge portal. Judging will happen from October 9, 2023 through October 23, 2023.
Winners will be announced on October 26, 2023.
The cost is $25 per person and you can participate individually or up to a team of 4. Registration closes on September 12th and space is limited.
1st place – $500 USD plus one team registration with their local FPS program.
2nd place – $200 USD plus one team registration with their local FPS program.
3rd place – one team registration with their local FPS Program.
*Prizes are per team and not per person.
PLEASE NOTE: By participating in the World Solutions Challenge you grant FPSPI permission rights to your submitted work and you certify that all work submitted is generated by the students alone. For more information click here.
